About Our School

Embry Hills Preschool & Kindergarten was established in 1964.

Thank you for your interest in our preschool and kindergarten program! We believe that children truly are a gift from God. It is the goal of our staff to meet the needs of each individual student. Please feel free to call our office or email if you have any questions.

School Philosophy:  Our goal is to meet the needs of each student. We want to nurture the whole child in the areas of physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual development.

Teaching Staff:  Our teachers are professionally trained and experienced, loving adults. Credentials are constantly updated through special courses offered and participation in professional continuing education workshops. All teachers and assistants are certified in CPR.

Christian Atmosphere:  Our program is a ministry of Embry Hills United Methodist Church. Students in our program flourish in a loving Christian environment. An age-appropriate chapel time is offered to our 3, 4, and 5-year olds. The daily classroom curriculum is Christian-based.

Operating Hours:  Our school day is 9:00am until 1:00pm. Our school year begins the first week in September and continues through the third week in May. We follow the DeKalb County School System holiday and weather calendar with a few exceptions.

Lunch:  Students enjoy bringing their own lunch, eating and socializing with their friends.

Carpool:  Morning and afternoon carpool (drop-off and pick-up) are part of our program for our preschool and kindergarten. Teachers are present to help the children in and out of the cars and to and from their classrooms. Each student will receive a carpool number for pick-up.

Preschool Curriculum:  Our preschool program is available for ages one through four years old. We help students begin development of the basic skills needed in language arts and math concepts. Our curriculum is designed to give students a variety of experiences in art, science, social studies, music, religion, health, safety and physical education. All age groups utilize a unit method of study, from units on nursery rhymes to the solar system. Pre-K classes utilize Alpha Time, Handwriting Without Tears, beginning readiness skills, and a hands-on approach to math using manipulatives. Click here to learn more.

Kindergarten Curriculum:  Our kindergarten program provides students with a class setting of 16 students, giving opportunities for individualized and small group instruction. Kindergarten classes use The Literature Experience, Wright Group Phonics, Math Their Way, Everyday Math, and Handwriting Without Tears. We provide all children with outdoor playtime each day, weather permitting. In-house programs are scheduled throughout the year for all classes to enjoy.  Click here to learn more.

Creative Movement:  A FAVORITE with the students, Creative Movement is offered to our preschool and kindergarten classes once per week. These activities enhance hand/eye coordination and gross motor skills for children.
